ROADWAY DAZZLES AND OFFENSE ERUPTS IN WIN OVER BROCKTON

(Atlantic City, NJ) – Southpaw ace Brian Roadway (3-1) was brilliant and the Surf torched Brockton pitching in a10-3 win over Brockton in a Can-Am League game Saturday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium.
The Surf got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. CF Lucas Taylor walked, and scored when SS Anthony Granato smacked his first home run of the season over the left centerfield wall. The Surf scored again in the third when 1B Joe Burke singled to third, stole second, and came in on an RBI single off the bat of C William Plaza.
The hit parade would continue against Rox starter Mike McTamney (0-3). In the fourth, the Surf plated five runs, off RBI’s by Burke, two from 3B Billy Hogan’s double, and two more off a single by the DH Eddie Kim. McTamney would not even record an out in the third, and was taken out after Burke’s RBI single. He allowed six of the ten Surf runs, on eight hits and four walks.
The Surf tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Plaza slapped a single to center that brought in SS Arturo Ledesma, who pinch hit for Granato, and the LF Clyde Williams immediately followed with an RBI single of his own that scored Burke.
The Rox finally got on board with three in the eighth when the LF Jud Thigpen stroked a three run homer out of the stadium in left field.
Roadway was dominant in his seven innings of work, allowing just four hits, walking one, and striking out a season high nine batters. The Rox never seemed to figure the ace out, as Roadway only allowed one runner to reach second base.
The Surf continues its three game series and look for the sweep against the Rox tomorrow night at 7:05. Righty Wayne Lundgren (1-2) takes the mound for Brockton, and faces off against Surf starter JC Huguet (2-0).
