HOME RUNS BY WILLIAMS, KIM NOT ENOUGH AS SURF FALL TO ROX

Brockton, Mass. – DH Phillip Cuadrado’s two-run home run in the tenth inning gave the Brockton Rox a 6-4 victory over the Atlantic City Surf in a Can-Am League game on Saturday evening at Campanelli Stadium. Atlantic City built a 2-0 lead in the first inning on DH Clyde Williams’ (above) one-out home run, bringing in SS Anthony Granato. The scored stayed that way until the sixth, when 1B Eddie Kim hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot, to make it 3-0. Brockton finally got to Surf starter J.C. Huguet in their half of the sixth, making it a 3-2 game on 1B Francisco Lebron’s RBI double and 2B Melvin Falu’s RBI single. Atlantic City then added a run in the ninth on C Joe Burke’s RBI single, but the Rox tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, tallying two runs off of Surf closer Aaron Easton (1-1) on an RBI single by SS Dominic Ramos and a sacrifice fly by LF Jud Thigpen, sending the game to extra innings. After Atlantic City couldn’t score in the top of the tenth, the Surf were able to register two outs before
Cuadrado’s blast to right off of Easton, his second of the season, bringing home Falu to make it a 6-4 final.
Atlantic City put together eight hits on the evening, with Burke going 3-for-5 and Williams ending the night 2-for-5. Despite not registering a decision, Huguet had a solid start, giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work, striking out four. Easton was saddled with his first defeat of the season. For Brockton, Ramos, Lebron and Falu each had two hits. Starter Michael McTamney also took a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. Jacob Ramos (2-0) earned his first victory of the season with a hitless inning and one third. The rubber game of the three-game set takes place Sunday afternoon, with Atlantic City’s Adam Cox (2-1) taking on Brockton’s John Kelly (2-1).
